You Are Not Alone — Men's Mental Health Awareness Month

Popping in here to say: "No, we didn't forget the men in our community." I mean, how can we? But seriously, we cannot even if we try. More importantly, we want to check in and ask: "How are you... really?"

June is still Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. We know it might seem like just another observance, but for us at Data2Bots, it isn't. We understand the role each person plays here on the team and in our wider community. Regardless of gender, we see and value the work you put in; not just at work, but in your personal life too.

It's easy to see the result of a project but miss the stress, the sleepless nights, and the side quests that took far longer than expected to resolve. For men, especially, we often see the provision made but overlook the hours, exhaustion, and heavy toll it took. And even when burnt out, you're expected to keep showing up strong, often without the thanks you deserve.

So here are a few important things we want you to hear:

• We see you, we know you're doing your best, and we appreciate you.
• If it gets to be too much, we support you taking a break.
• If you feel like you can't keep being strong, you can speak up knowing that we will listen.
• You matter. Your feelings matter, your life matters, and you are not alone.

No man is an island. We believe in the power of community, such as religious groups, work retreats, and utilizing professional mental health resources; all of which provide valuable resources for men needing an outlet from the pressures of just being.

These resources, and many more, are available for the 21st-century man who is in tune with his mental health needs and understands how it can be adversely affected, both by the choices he makes and by circumstances entirely beyond his control. Safe spaces offer a sanctuary for men to relax, unburden themselves of life's challenges, and, more importantly, develop healthier coping mechanisms to navigate these issues.

Consider this an earnest invitation to speak up; when you speak in the right rooms, your voice will never be drowned out.
